The aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth is in Belfast from 7 October 2026 on a scheduled visit, the first carrier to call since 1965. She is part way through three months of training, restocking and giving her crew time ashore, and is due to leave on Monday 12 October. There are no public tours; the best view is from the shores of Belfast Lough when she sails.
The gold at Curraghinalt, near Greencastle in the Sperrins, is the largest known gold deposit in the UK but not one of the largest in the world: its whole published estimate, about 190 tonnes, equals about three weeks of world mine output. It is not mined yet, and belongs to the Crown. We checked the claims about invasion and Queen’s University against the record, as of 8 October 2026.
Only one shop in east Belfast is open all night: the Eurospar at 101 Ladas Drive. Holywood and Bangor have nothing open after midnight, and no pharmacy in Northern Ireland opens later than 9pm. We checked every shop’s own opening hours on 3 October 2026; here is where to go, what a shop can sell you, and who to phone if it is more than a headache.
BH Estates wants to build a 24-hour plant off Carrowreagh Road, Dundonald, that turns digestate into fertiliser pellets. The application, lodged in June 2025, is undecided and has drawn 457 objections. We read the planning file and built an independent air-quality model: run as described, the plant adds very little to what people breathe; run badly, the nearest homes on Carrowreagh Road would see a meaningful rise in fine dust and night noise.
Northern Ireland’s longest-running club night began at the Limelight in 1993, spent more than twenty years at Queen’s Students’ Union, and now runs where it began. Three dates are booked for October 2026.
A run of good nights across the Limelight, the Telegraph Building and the Oh Yeah Music Centre. Two warnings first: your Limelight ticket may not be at the Limelight, and several of the biggest names on the listings are tribute acts.
The Limelight runs a resident club night on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, alongside one-off themed nights most weekends. Here is what runs when, which room it is in, and the bits the listings do not spell out.
NI Social documents places and things to do across Northern Ireland with the practical detail that decides whether a trip works: where you actually park, what the ground is like, how busy it gets, and what the place is like when the weather turns.
