# Things to do Film Locations Source: https://nisocial.com/listing-category/film-locations/ Part of: https://nisocial.com/ Places listed: 2 Northern Ireland stood in for a great deal of Westeros and more besides. Entries note what is genuinely recognisable and what only works from one angle. ## Places ### Mussenden Temple and Downhill Demesne A small domed library on the edge of a 120-foot cliff above Downhill Strand, built in 1785 by a bishop for his cousin. The photograph everyone takes is from one spot; the demesne behind it is large, largely empty, and the better part of the visit. Full entry: https://nisocial.com/listing/mussenden-temple/ Cost: National Trust property, so there is an admission charge and members go free. Check the Trust's page for current pricing before you travel rather than trusting a figure from a blog. | How long: An hour if you only want the temple. Two to three hours to walk the demesne properly, including the mansion ruins, the walled garden and the Bishop's Gate approach. | Parking: Two entrances, and which one you pick changes the visit. Lion's Gate car park puts you closest to the temple and the ruins. Bishop's Gate at the Castlerock end starts you in the glen and the walled garden and gives you a far better first sight of the place - it is the approach the Earl Bishop designed for arriving guests. ### The Dark Hedges The beech avenue on the Bregagh Road, famous from Game of Thrones. The road is closed to traffic, so the thing most visitors get wrong is where to park - and nobody warns you that storms have thinned the trees since the photographs you have seen. Full entry: https://nisocial.com/listing/the-dark-hedges/ Cost: Free. There is no ticket, gate or visitor centre. | How long: 20 to 30 minutes to walk the avenue and back, longer if you are photographing it. | Parking: You cannot drive or park on the avenue itself - Bregagh Road has been closed to through traffic since 2017 to protect the roots. Use the signed car park at the Hedges Hotel estate on the Ballinlea Road and walk in. People still abandon cars on the verges of the surrounding lanes; those roads are narrow, working farm roads and you will block a tractor.
